The Bright Lights in your Community – South East Wales Community Gathering
December 5 @ 9:30 am - 2:00 pmFree
About this Event
This meet up is a space and opportunity to get together with community minded people and projects from across South East Wales who are doing their bit to be a positive light and bring people together in whatever way. Whether you run a community project, give up your time to volunteer doing something, put on community events, have run a Big Lunch (or would like to), simply go out of your way to be kind to your neighbours or want to be more involved in your community, join us!
We’ll come together to share our experiences, swap ideas and tips, talk about the highlights and the challenges of what we do…..and go away feeling inspired and much better connected to others doing similar things just around the corner. Everyone is welcome!
Our home for the day will be RSPB Wetlands Nature Reserve, chosen for it’s beautiful setting with it’s nature walk and lighthouse alongside, which will act as a wonderful metaphor as we bring together those who light up their communities.
We’ll hold discussions around what we give to our community (our projects and passions), the ways in which we light up the lives of others, how we go about bringing more people in to help and also the implications of being a beacon of light upon our own resilience and wellbeing.
You’ll also get to try your hand at literally making your own light, by learning the skill of lantern making! Lantern Parades are regularly used as a way to bring people together in their communities at this time of year, and we’ll be joined by fellow network members from Monmouth who do just that! Whether you’re interested in starting your own lantern parade or want to have a go just for fun, they’ll talk to us about how they do it and the benefits it’s had on their town while guiding us to make our own to take home.
After lunch, we’ll take time to appreciate the setting we’re in with a short walk out to the lighthouse, which will provide us the space to reflect on what we’ve learned and what we’re taking back with us to our own projects or communities.
The day will be participatory and informal, with a number of activities and discussions to get stuck in to, with plenty of opportunities to bring your own questions/challenges/concerns to the table.
Do you have an event of your own that you want to tell the co-production community about? Submit the details so we can display it on the calendar and spread the word through the newsletter. Click here for the event details form.
