Is there a role for prisons in modern Wales?

February 11 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

Our latest event comes on the back of the Thomas Commission’s recommendation that “justice should be determined and delivered in Wales… to provide greater benefit for the people of Wales.”

Currently, Welsh prisons are stretched to capacity, reoffending rates are on the rise, and there is no provision at all for Welsh female prisoners. The latest Cardiff University – IWA debate will look at whether Wales could abolish prisons altogether and create a new justice system based around the principles of the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act.

Dr Robert Jones, Research Associate, School of Law & Politics, Cardiff University and Ruth Coombs, Head of Wales, Equality and Human Rights Commission are confirmed as the first panellists of this event, and further speakers will be confirmed shortly.

Tickets for this discussion are free and available on a first come, first served basis.
