Future Generations Commissioner for Wales – Acting today for a better tomorrow: Understanding the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act, 12 June & 24 September 2024, Online

The Well-being of Future Generations Act is changing the way we do things here in Wales, from how we plan services, to how we work together, to how we buy things. The Act has galvanised our ambition to be a country that support environmental, economic, social and cultural well-being of people today and those yet to be born. Knowledge and understanding of the Act is essential for people working in and with the public sector as we work together to realise our goals. This session will aim to introduce you to the Act or provide you with a refresh of its ambitions (well-being goals), how these are realised (the ways of working) and sustainable development principle.

Through this session you will;

  • Increase your knowledge on the Well-being of Future Generations Act and what it means for public bodies.

  • Deepen your understanding of how the sustainable development principle shapes and influences how public bodies work.

  • Develop skills in acting in accordance with the sustainable development principle (centred around the five ways of working).

  • Use resources and tools intended to help you take learning away and apply it to your own work.

WLGA Conference – Local government fit for the future, 26 & 27 June 2024, Swansea Arena

2024 will be a pivotal UK General Election year and its outcome will steer policy for the years ahead. The WLGA Annual Conference will explore the priorities and actions which will need to be taken by councils in Wales to continue support communities in future years amidst an unprecedented multitude of challenges, in partnership with Welsh and UK governments.

Future Generations Commissioner for Wales and Nature Service Wales – Information Webinar: Nature Service Wales, 2 July 2024, 2:30pm-3:30pm, Online

Join the Office of the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales this Wales Nature Week to find out more about the new Nature Service Wales – a new focus on developing the people behind nature’s recovery in Wales.

This 1-hour online session, jointly hosted by Nature Service Wales and Future Generations Cymru, will provide information on:

  • What is Nature Service Wales
  • Why we need it (for skills, jobs and nature restoration)
  • What’s next for Nature Service Wales
  • Making the connection with the Well-being of Future Generations Act

Wrexham University Research – From the Margins to the Mainstream 2024, 10 July 2024, Wrexham University, Mold Road, Wrexham, LL11 2AW

This 1-Day, in-person sandpit event will bring together researchers, policy makers and practitioners from the public and third sectors from across Wales to explore how we can embed the use of stories to support evidence-informed practice and decision-making in health, social care and well-being settings. At the sandpit, you will:

  • Hear lightning talks from a diversity of speakers about storytelling-based innovations from Wales and beyond
  • Build relationships, share knowledge and skills, and create interdisciplinary and sectoral connections
  • Generate ideas for research and applied-practice projects in this field
