Renew Wales is a practitioner-led programme which for over 8 years has been helping communities in Wales reduce their carbon footprint, adapt to the impacts of climate change, and live more sustainably. We were commissioned to deliver their “Design, Reflect, Connect” project, which sought to answer the following questions:
- What ideas do they have for how to get there?
- What helps communities take action on climate change, and what hinders them?
- What does a sustainable future look like to the communities we engage with?
Y dull
The project was a combination of evaluation and future programme development, and our role was to expand the conversation from Renew Wales’ team and allies, to its stakeholders and the wider community it serves. The project aimed to develop an understanding of the relationships between the changes which have occurred as a result of the Renew Wales programme, the changes to which it has been a contributing element, and the changes people want to see in the future.
We designed and supported a series of open space events and activities, exploring the environmental issues which are of greatest interest to Wales as a whole, and to specific regions and audiences within Wales. These events were, where appropriate, delivered in English and Welsh, and in collaboration with partner organisations from across Wales.
Y canlyniad
The final outcome was the production of a report building on previous evaluations of Renew Wales and putting its impacts in context; a stronger network of connections between the communities, groups, partners and others who are part of Renew Wales’ networks; and the proposal of key elements of (a) future programme(s) which build on the Renew Wales experience to date, and are fit for the emerging needs of the next decade.
